A former coach and teacher at Chattooga High School was inducted recently into the Marshall County, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. Ronald King was recognized as being the top scoring basketball player in the history of Arab High School in Arab, Alabama. King scored more than 1,300 points during his career at Arab. He scored more than 40 points in 12 games his senior year and scored a record 54 points in one game.
King played basketball in college and for the independent baskeball league team from Birmingham – The Icemakers where he scored 78 points in one game. King coached basketball for 38 years during his teaching career – 2 of those years were at Chattooga High School. King is married to Vicki Cooper King, whom he met in Summerville while teaching at Chattooga. The couple have been married for 30 years. While Mr. King is now "officially" retired, he still teaches physical education at Meridianville Elementary School in Alabama.
