A former Trion City School’s Coach died after taking a walk on Thursday afternoon.  Thomas Bryant was a coach at Armuchee High School and fellow teachers say that Bryant was the kind of teacher who went the extra mile for his students, said a colleague who taught with him for the past two years.

Bryant, 58, collapsed Thursday evening after taking an evening walk with Armuchee head football coach John Mullinax. He was pro-nounced dead at 7:45 p.m. at Redmond Regional Medical Center, Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard said. The cause of death has not been determined.

Bryant was a special education teacher at the school and was the offensive line coach for the football team.

Bryant had coached on the college level at Tusculum College in Tusculum, Tenn., and at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. He was also a former coach at Trion High School.His two sons attended Armuchee schools, and Bryant’s wife teaches at Trion Middle School.

Funeral arrangements for Mr. Bryant will be announced by Mason Funeral Home in Summerville.
