If you go to Ft. Oglethorpe too eat and choose to drink adult beverages you might want to be aware of a new city ordinance. The new law states that alcoholic beverages are restricted to inside the restaraunt and the restaraunts patio area. There had been at least one incident where restaurant patrons were waiting to be seated with alcohol in the parking lot area. The City Council is trying to keep alcohol out of the hands of minors and feel the new restrictions will help.
The Fort Oglethorpe City Council voted on Monday, July 28 to amend the alcoholic beverage ordinance to prevent people from drinking outside of eating establishments except in outdoor areas that are designed to be accessed only from the inside of the building.
The council approved the changes 4-1 with council member Louis Hamm opposed. Hamm, who is a Baptist preacher, said he believes the ordinance is not strict enough.
