A Fort Oglethorpe police officer has resigned after an investigation into allegations that he had sexual relations behind a business while in uniform.

A video recording from security cameras at Keith Heating and Air in Walker County shows the officer around midday Saturday, pull up in his patrol car in uniform, meet with a woman, and begin performing sexual acts.

City Manager and City Attorney Ron Goulart declined to give the officer’s name until he could first notify his family, but said the sex appeared to be consensual. He said the officer resigned about 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3 and no additional action would be taken.

“It’s just something we don’t condone,” he said. “It’s just conduct unbecoming an officer.”

He said the officer has been with the department for at least a few years, and has done a good job overall. “We’ve got an excellent department and we’ll work through it,” he said. “You’re going to have issues from time to time.”

Goulart said the police department was forced to investigate and act on the matter quickly when a local television news station produced the evidence today. He said that was the first he had known about the matter. The Catoosa County News left a message for Police Chief David Eubanks and is awaiting a response.
