A Fort Payne man is charged with child abuse for the alleged assault of his 8-year-old son.
Brent Preston Hunter, 43, is charged with the crime. Fort Payne Investigator David Davis said the arrest came Saturday during a joint investigation by Fort Payne police, DeKalb County Department of Human Resources and the DeKalb Children’s Advocacy Center.
Davis said the investigation unfolded after the boy walked into the Exxon station at the top of Alabama 35 in Fort Payne, near JT’s Fish House, after the alleged assault.
“He was really shook up,” Davis said.
He said the boy walked about a mile, along the side of the highway, from his home to the store.
Davis said store employees called police and the subsequent investigation turned up enough evidence to charge Hunter with child abuse. Additional details were not available.
