State Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks, has announced that he intends to stay in the race for the Democratic nomination for governor of Alabama and will not be switching to the 5th Congressional District race.

Sparks, a native of Ft Payne, told the Associated Press Tuesday that he’s more committed than ever to running for governor, and that he’s in the race to stay.

A number of Democrats in Washington had been urging Sparks to change races, after 5th District Representative Parker Griffith of Huntsville, became a Republican last week.

Sparks said he was honored by the interest being shown – but, continues to feel that he’s made a commitment to the people of Alabama to run for governor.
