The woman who was the first female mayor in the state of Alabama has died – Mrs. Lillian Whitt White, age 96 of Centre, passed away on Saturday (June 12th) at Cherokee Medical Center.
Mrs. White served as the Mayor of Centre from November 9th, 1971 through October 6th, 1980. She also spent eight years on the City Council.
Funeral services will be held today in Centre for Mrs. White and flags at City Hall in Centre are flying at half-staff in her honor.
