A highly pressurized distribution line operated by Summerville Gas Department in Floyd County ruptured this morning in North Rome after crews from AT&T hit the pump station on Bells Ferry Road.  AM 1180 Chattooga Radio News spoke with the Summerville Gas Department office in Armuchee who confirmed that the AT&T crews had been working on some of their power lines and were using the Summerville Gas Company’s right of way.  Police were forced to evacuate at least 2 homes in the area around 10:30 this morning due to the amount of gas that was leaking.  The workers with AT&T hit a tap on a 250 lb. Line causing the rupture.  According to the Summerville Gas Department the area was well marked with signs warning about the gas line.  Management teams with AT&T were on the scene this afternoon photographing the damage caused by the AT&T driver. The crews from the Summerville Gas Department had the problem contained within 25 minutes of the report.
