Callers to the Georgia Department of Labor may have experienced some problems with getting their phone calls through to the department late last week.
One of nine phone systems at the Department of Labor crashed last week due to the high volume of unemployment questions coming into the department. Currently the Georgia of Department of Labor is fielding over 150,000 phone calls per day.
Commissioner Michael Thurmond said the phone system was repaired on Sunday. People receiving unemployment must call the automated phone every week to verify they are looking for work. Thurmond said that from Midnight Sunday night to 1 AM Monday morning the department received 3,000 phone calls to the automated system to verify job searches.
