Construction work could soon begin on two state highway projects in Walker County. Georgia DOT has just awarded two contracts valued at little over $2.4 million for two construction projects in Walker County. The first project includes over four miles of resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on U.S. 27, beginning south of Wilder Road and extending to McFarland Avenue. This project is expected to be completed by the end of September 2012, at a construction cost of $1,591,304.

The second project includes traffic signal upgrades at various locations on State Route (SR) 1, SR 1 Business, and SR 193 in Walker County. It also includes the installation of road condition video detection systems. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2012, at a construction cost of $848,433.
