Despite billions of dollars in federal loan guarantees that would come from the Obama administration, Georgia Power said that it will still hike customer rates in 2011. The rate increase will help finance two new nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle near Augusta. Georgia Power representatives said that customers will see their power bills rise by an average of $1.30 a month in 2011.

Georgia Power added that that they could reconsider additional rate increases set to take effect moving forward after the it begins to realize savings from the loan guarantees.
