According to a report by The Project on Student Debt, Georgia was listed among the states with the lowest amount of college debt. Georgia’s 2008 college graduates averaged a debt of $17,296. Only five states beat Georgia; Utah, Hawaii, Kentucky, Wyoming and Arizona.

Students who graduated from colleges in the Northeast had a higher than average debt. Those states tend to have a higher percentage of public and private colleges with higher tuition.
