Also attending the reception were donors, families of and those whose names were on the scholarships:
• Jon and Gail Bloomfield attended with their daughters Cynthia Elsberry (who teaches at GHC-Marietta) and Becky Bloomfield in memory of their third daughter Cathryn E. Bloomfield. Cathy was a dental hygiene student in 1993 and died of cancer in 1994.
• Susan Claxton, who teaches human services at the Floyd campus, attended to see the recipient of the first scholarship award in memory of her daughter Felicia, who died of heart disease.
• Ed Henderson, whose wife Leslie was a revered member of the nursing faculty and passed away in March, also saw the first award of the Leslie J. Henderson Nursing Scholarship.
• Steve Edwards, former chair of the Georgia Highlands College Foundation Board of Trustees, attended to witness the initial award of the Jim and Leatha Richie Scholarship. Edwards was instrumental in creating the scholarship. The Richies, who owned and ran a retail store in Summerville, were influential mentors to him in his youth.
• Jerry Shelton, a retired faculty member who funded the Jerry W. Sheltons Scholarship, also saw its first award this year and attended the reception.
• Betty Wollstein, a former nurse, and her daughter Helene Wollstein, were there to honor the recipient of the Betty R. Wollstein Nursing Scholarship.
Chief Advancement Officer John Southwood said, "Our scholarship program continues to experience significant growth as donors see the value of changing student’s lives. We’re very proud of the support we have received for this most worthwhile program
