This holiday season, help your local community by giving the gift of life. Blood Assurance, the non-profit regional blood center, announces upcoming blood drives in the area.
* Wednesday, Dec. 23 at Walmart in Summerville from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
* Monday, Dec. 28 at Oakview Nursing Home from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Your one gift of a blood donation can save up to three patients here in your community, as Blood Assurance is the only provider of blood for Redmond Regional Medical Center, Floyd Medical Center and 54 other area healthcare facilities.
Your whole blood donation will be separated into three components; red blood cells, platelets and plasma.
Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
All donors will receive a long-sleeved Blood Assurance holiday t-shirt as well as a complimentary snack. Visitors at the blood drive can also register to win a Nintendo Wii. Twenty-one Wii game systems will be given away by the regional blood center on January 4.
Blood Assurance needs at least 400 donations each day to meet the demands of the community. For more information, please visit www.bloodassurance.org or call Sandra Kerr at 706-235-9853.
