The Rome, Cherokee and Piedmont chapters of Sons of the American Revolution, along with the General Society of the War of 1812 in the State of Georgia, will host a grave marking ceremony for a father and son on Saturday, March 27.

The graves of Revolutionary War patriot Daniel O’Rear and War of 1812 participant Benjamen O’Rear will be marked at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Cemetery near Summerville.

The memorial service will include the 8th Regiment Drum and Fife, the award winning Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard in Revolutionary uniforms and a bagpipe farewell.

Delane O’Rear, a family descendant, will present the biographies of the men. Speakers will include Terry Manning, State President of the SAR, Joe Rude’, President of the Society of the War of 1812 in the State of Georgia, Audrey Karlovich, Georgia Society National Society of the War of 1812, Bebe Heiskell, Commissioner of Walker County, the William Marsh Chapter DAR, the Walker County Historical Society and the Chattooga County Historical Society.

The ceremony is open to the public. The Macedonia Cemetery entrance is located directly across from 10850 Highway GA-337 in the Teloga Community.
