Republican Candidate for Governor, Karen Handle has made remarks about the 411 connector that have sparked an outcry from many in Northwest Georgia, including fellow Republicans.

Handle made the comments about the 411 Connector project and referenced the controversial "Northern Arc" project in Atlanta and called for the route to be re-configured.  These comments sparked an outrcy from other Republican Governor candidates John Oxendine and Nathan Deal, and even remarks from U.S. Representative Phil Gingrey.  Gingrey said that while he respects Handel, the 411 Connector Project is important for North Georgia.

The Rome News-Tribune said in an article yesterday that Handle has received campaign donations from some people opposed to the project.

Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters had earlier weighed in on the issue expressing his support.  Winters said that while it is unusual for a commissioner to weigh in on a project outside his own county, he feels that the project is vital to the economic development of Northwest Georgia.
