A Hays Prison Guard that was accused of bringing a a cellphone into the prison by the Georgia Department of Corrections has been sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay a $2,225 fine according to DOC Spokesperson Kristen Stancil.

The prison worker was Joanne Helmer, the former Georgia Correctional Optics Plant manager at Hays Prison.  Department of Corrections offiicals say that Helmer was selling cell phones to inmates in the prison.  DOC statements said "As a result of the investigation inot the escape at Hays State Prison in Trion last October, a fomer Department of Corrections employee was convicted for her involvement."
