A non profit medical organization, Primary Health Care Center has targeted Chattooga County as a high priority for their services. Primary Health Care has obtained federal funding for a planning grant to open a center in Chattooga County. They currently operate centers in Walker and Dade Counties. With the announcement last week by local physician Dr. Douglas Caron that he will be closing his practice in Summerville, Chattooga County looses its last full-time doctor in the county. Caron told patients in a letter that he will be joining a practice in Calhoun. Erica Green with Primary Health Care Center told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that her organization wants to bring their services to Chattooga County in the near future. A planning meeting is scheduled for tomorrow evening at the Chattooga County Civic Center in Summerville, and area residents are being urged to come out and voice their concerns about the need for medical care in Chattooga County. The meeting gets underway at 6 PM.
