What ended up being a two hour manhunt began Tuesday afternoon shortly after 1:30 as Alabama law enforcement officials attempted to question what was referred to as a `suspicious` individual near the Chattooga River Bridge.

When the officer swung his patrol car around to question the subject, the man fled into the woods.

Initial reports were that the suspect was similar in description to one of the inmates who had recently escaped from Hays State Prison, a white male approximately five feet eight, and weighing around 150 pounds.

A number of agencies took part in the search with a helicopter also being brought in from the Department of Public Safety

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver said that the suspect was apprehended on Alabama Highway 9 about two miles north of Alabama 35 in the Lawrence/Farrill area.

The suspect turned out to be a Hispanic male, and it remains unclear at this time why he fled from authorities
