THE REGION ONE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES COUNCIL HAS APPROVED HUTCHESON MEDICAL CENTER FOR RATING AS A REGIONAL TRAUMA CENTER.   THAT’S SOMETHING THE HOSPITAL HAS BEEN WORKING TOWARD SINCE ERLANGER TOOK OVER MANAGEMENT OF THE FORT OGLETHOPE HOSPITAL.

ACCORDING TO DAVID ASHBURN, WHO SERVES ON THE HUTCHESON BOARD… THIS MEANS THE HOSPITAL IS NOT ONLY RATED FOR TRAUMA EMERGENCIES IN THE E.R. – BUT ALSO FOR PATIENT ADMISSION AND CONTINUED CARE… IN MANY CASES.

ASHBURN SAID AN EVALUATION TEAM FROM THE EMS COUNCIL WILL INSPECT HUTCHESON’S FACILITIES SOON… AND GIVE THE TRAUMA CENTER A RATING…PROBABLY A 3 OR 4.   ERLANGER IN CHATTANOOGA IS THE REGION’S ONLY LEVEL 1 TRAUMA CENTER.
