Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Kathy V. Brown told AM 1180 that the deadline is fast approaching for signing up for homestead exemption, senior citizen exemptions and covenant exemptions on property in Chattooga County for tax year 2010.

All returns, both on real and personal property must be done by April 1, 2010 in order to qualify for the year 2010.  If you believe your property is valued too high, now is the time to go talk to the property assessors.

Brown said taxpayers shouldn’t wait until you get your tax bill in the fall – it will be too late then.  You need to speak with the Property Assessors now to discuss the value of your property.

If you bought a home last year, and reside in it then you need to go by the Property Assessors office between the hours of  8:30 AM and 5 PM Monday through Friday to sign up for all exemptions and covenants.  Once again the deadline is April 1, 2010.
