April 16, 2009, will be the 67^th anniversary of the Battle of Midway – the date was April 16, 2009.  We want to honor one of our own, a native of the Subligna-West Armuchee area, Chief Warrant Officer William Neil McKnight.  He served on the USS Hornet with Colonel Jimmy Doolittle as Colonel Doolittle led 16 twin-propeller B-25 bombers on a daring raid over Tokyo.  McKnight was a fuel man for Colonel Doolittle. Later he was on the USS Hornet in the Battle of Santa Cruz.  The 2880 men aboard this ship suffered 3 direct torpedo attacks on October 26, 1942. We honor all of our heroes on the anniversary of the Battle of Midway.
