Highways have reopened after a fire that broke out last this afternoon.
The blaze broke out in an empty house beside the Davis Auto Repair. The call was reported at by a passerby at 4:40 p.m., said Calhoun Fire Chief Lenny Nesbitt.
"By the time we got out here you couldn’t even see the street, smoke was everywhere," Nesbitt said.
Power to the house was cut off by Calhoun Utilities personnel.
Nesbitt said it was too soon to tell where the fire originated, but he said the fire quickly moved to the rest of the house and attic.
Nesbitt said four engines and about 11 fire fighters responded to the fire. Nesbitt also said the fire was contained with in minutes.
Traffic was rerouted off of Highway 41 onto Maple Street. Highways reopened shortly before 6 p.m.
