Hundreds of local citizens turned out yesterday to join the festivities at Summerville’s Independence Day celebration. AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio broadcast live from the site adjacent to the Summerville Recreation Center off Highway 100. Local duo Buck & Duke provided musical entertainment beginning around 6 PM and got the crowd in a festive holiday spirit. At 7:15, there was a cannon firing demonstration which left kids smiling and ears ringing. Then, at 7:45 Buck & Duke took the stage for a second set, and they rocked the crowd until dark. Around 9:30, it was dark enough for the main event – the holiday fireworks display. Pyrotechnics lit the sky for almost fifteen minutes as the crowd “oooh”-ed and “aaaah”-ed. As one spectator put it “that was a great end to a great day”.
