The inmate who escaped from the Dekalb County Correctional Facility over the weekend has been re-captured – 58 year old Emmitt Arlee Harris, was taken into custody at around 7:30 Tuesday morning, in the Pine Ridge area just inside the Ft Payne City Limits.

According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, that escape took place at approximately 8:45 Sunday, when the inmate scaled an internal 14-foot security fence, then went through three layers of razor wire, pulling himself to the top of the building – where he jumped approximately 14 feet from the roof.

Emmitt Harris was previously charged by the ATF, with being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and was sentenced last year to a term of 33 months – he had been transported to the Dekalb Correctional Facility for housing several weeks ago.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris said that all means available were utilized, in an effort to apprehend the subject in a quick and timely manner – among those involved in that manhunt were a number of law enforcement agencies, which included Ft Payne, Collinsville, Rainsville, Crossville, Powell, Geraldine, Sylvania, and the St. Clair County Correctional Facility’s K-9 Unit, along with the U.S. Marshall Service.
