The Chattooga County Animal Shelter recently received a surprise inspection by the Department of Agriculture, the regulatory agency for shelters in Georgia.

An complaint had been received by the Department of Agriculture regarding the shelter which prompted the inspection.  Chattooga County Animal Control Director Aubrey "Smitty" Smith told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio  last week after the inspection that the inspector from the Department of Agriculture had not found any violations at the shelter.

There had been reports of  over population and various problems at the shelter, but the inspector said that the Chattooga County animal shelter had no problems, and in fact looked good.

Also, last week County Commssioner Jason Winters announced that former shelter director Felicia Walker was no longer employed with the county.  Winters said that restructuring at animal control would provide for more efficient animal control in the county.
