WALKER COUNTY COMMISSIONER BEBE HEISKELL SAID THURSDAY THAT THERE HAS BEEN STRONG INTEREST IN THE FORMER BLUEBIRD BUS PLANT… NOW SITTING IDOL IN LAFAYETTE.  THE COMPANY SHUTTERED THE PLANT AND MOVED BUS PRODUCTION TO IT’S FORT VALLEY FACILITY.

SHE SAID THE COUNTY IS NOW WORKING WITH TWO EXCELLENT PROSPECTS.  "OF COURSE, WE WANT THE COMPANY THAT WILL BRING THE MOST JOBS HERE," HEISKELL SAID.

AN EARLIER PROSPECT FOR THE BLUEBIRD PLANT WAS A MANUFACTURER OF TRAILERS FOR TRACTOR-TRAILERS.  HEISKELL SAID THAT COMPANY LOST A CONTRACT WITH A MAJOR CUSTOMER DURING THE NEGOTIATION… AND PUT OFF THE WALKER COUNTY PLANS FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS.

IN THE MEAN TIME… ANOTHER PROSPECT HAS SURFACED… AND THEY ARE REPORTEDLY NEGOTIATING DIRECTLY WITH BLUEBIRD OVER THE PRICE OF THE PLANT AND ITS 100 ACRES.  A THIRD PROSPECT HAS ALSO SHOWN INTEREST – AND THEY ARE "WAITING IN THE WINGS".
