What appears to be another possible case of an attempted scam in Cherokee County – took place this week. A woman living in the County Road 133 area near Jamestown contacted authorities reporting that a male subject had approached her residence claiming to have leftover asphalt mix from a previous job. The unidentified male, proceeded to say that he would pave the woman`s driveway with those materials – at cost – with no charge for labor – however he wanted to be paid up front; when the woman said she would not be able to pay immediately, the subject said they would instead return at a later time.

According to reports – during their conversation the man constantly attempted to look over the homeowner`s shoulder, into the living room; he also repeatedly asked if there was anyone else at home and the woman informed him that her father was inside the residence, along with other family members. Shortly thereafter the man left. The subject was last seen driving what was described as, a white Chevrolet long-wheel based dually with the name "Oak Grove Asphalt" on the side. A `Be on the Lookout` alert was issued for the vehicle late Tuesday. Anyone coming in contact with – or bring approached by – these individuals – should contact the Cherokee County Sheriff`s Department at (256) 927-3365.
