AM 1180 learned on Wednesday afternoon that Jarrett Trucking in Summerville is closing it’s doors. The company owned by Charles Jarrett of Summerville had laid off several of it’s drivers two weeks ago in an attempt to down-size and keep the company going. According to www.manta.com Jarrett Trucking has had an annual revenue of $2.5 to $5 million dollars in the past and has employed between 35 and 40 people.
Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters told AM 1180 on Wednesday evening that he would be placing a call to the Georgia Department of Labor to assist the laid-off workers from Jarrett Trucking. With Chattooga County’s small population and small number of eligible workers, the closing of a company employing 35-40 people will undoubtedly have an affect on the county’s unemployment rate for the month of June.
