A Summerville woman struck a worker on the side of Highway 27 on Taylor’s Ridge this afternoon, killing him and injuring herself and passengers in her vehicle. 

According to the Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome, 21 year old Brittany Noel Jones of Summerville was travelling Northbound on Highway 27 when she veered to the side of the roadway and struck 39 year old Charles L. Lacey of Jasper, Georgia killing him instantly.  Jones vehicle then struck a utility trailer located on the side of the highway that was loaded with water pipe. Lacey was employed by KM Davis Construction Company who are installing water line over the mountain as part of the Gore-Subligna Water Project. 

The accident occurred at 1:41 PM according to the state patrol. Jones was transported by Lifeforce to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga with non-life threatening injuries.  According to the state patrol, the woman was transported because she had numerous injuries but none were considered life threatening. 

There were several children in the 1993 Plymouth Voyager Van that was driven by Jones; it is not clear how many of those children were transported to the hospital; however it is believed that the children were taken to Floyd Medical Center, none with life-threatening injuries. 

This is the second accident with a fatality on Taylor’s Ridge within the past three weeks.
