Summons were mailed out last week for jury duty in Chattooga County.  Residents who receive the jury summons will be required to serve on the jury unless they are over 70 years of age, are a full-time college student enrolled in classes, are the primary care giver of a child under the age of six, or are on military duty.

Many people erroneously believe that jury selection comes from a list of registered voters.  Chattooga County Clerk of Courts Sam Cordle told AM 1180 that the voter registration list is just one of several ways names are selected for jury duty.  If you have a valid drivers license in Georgia you are just as likely to be drawn for jury duty. Jurors names are drawn at random and will be sent a summons to appear at the courthouse on a specific date.
