EARLIER THIS WEEK THE LAFAYETTE CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSED A SWIMMING-BAN FOR QUEEN CITY LAKE.  MAYOR NEAL FLORENCE SAID THERE HAD BEEN THREE DROWNINGS THERE IN RECENT YEARS… THE LATEST HAPPENING JUST LAST WEEK.  PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR TOMMY FREEMAN SAID IT’S HIS OPINION THAT A BAN ON SWIMMING AT THE LAKE WAS "UNENFORCEABLE"… BECAUSE SO MUCH OF THE SHORELINE IS PRIVATELY-OWNED PROPERTY, TO WHICH THE POLICE HAVE NO ACCESS.  THE MAYOR AGREED… AND NO ACTION WAS TAKEN.  OFFICIALLY, SWIMMING IS "DISCOURAGED" AT QUEEN CITY LAKE… BUT IT REMAINS LEGAL TO DO SO FOR NOW.
