Employees and customers began returning to the Walmart Supercenter in LaFayette about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The store on U.S. 27 was evacuated around 3 p.m. because of a gas leak in the pharmacy area, officials said.

The LaFayette fire and police departments responded to the emergency.

During the evacuation employees gathered outside at the far east side of the parking lot.
