The Georgia Department of Transportation is advising motorists in northwest Georgia of night lane closures on I-75 north- and southbound between exit 353 and the Tennessee line, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, June 13 and 14, to allow for paving work at this location.

Starting at 8 p.m. Sunday night through early Monday morning, the northbound lanes of I-75 between mile markers 353 and 354 will be closed, one lane at a time, in order the complete the paving work and put the traffic back into its final alignment. Work and lane closures will be shifted to the southbound lanes on Monday night from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. This night paving operation and the lane closures it necessitates are weather permitting and subject to change.

“We have made every effort to minimize the impact this paving operation may have on the heavy traffic on I-75 just south of the Tennessee state line. Informing the public in advance of this operation, working in phases, and working at night are only a few examples of these efforts,” said Kent Sager, district engineer at the DOT office in Cartersville.

The paving work at this location is part of a 0.93-mile project of widening for additional lanes and interchange reconstruction on I-75 at Ga.146/Cloud Springs Road. The project also includes the construction of a new bridge and approaches on I-75 over Ga. 146. Work on this project began the third week of September 2007. The entire project is expected to be completed by mid-July 2010, at a construction cost of $28,276,129.
