IF YOU HAVE BEEN PUTTING OFF BURNING THAT BRUSH PILE OR ANY LEAVES OR YARD DEBRIS, YOU BETTER GET BUSY THIS WEEKEND.  THIS IS THE LAST WEEKEND YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO BURN IN NORTHWEST GEORGIA.  CHATTOOGA COUNTY ALONG WITH OTHER NORTHWEST GEORGIA COUNTIES WILL BE UNDER A BURN BAN UNTIL THE FALL.  THE ANNUAL BAN THAT BEGINS MAY 1ST IS IMPOSED BECAUSE OF SMOG COCERN AND IS LIFTED AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER.  OTHER COUNTIES AFFECTED ARE: BARTOW, FLOYD, POLK, DADE, WALKER AND CATOOSA.  CITIZENS AND BUSINESSES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BURN YARD AND LAND-CLEARING DEBRIS DURING THE BURN BAN.  SOME ACTIVITIES SUCH AS CAMPFIRES AND AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES ARE EXEMPT.  IF YOU NEED MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE BURN BAN YOU CAN CALL THE GEORGIA STATE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION DIVISION AT 404-679-4940.  AUTHORITIES URGE FOLKS TO TAKE THEIR YARD DEBRIS TO A COMMERCIAL COMPOSTING OR GRINDING OPERATION…..OR YOU CAN START YOUR OWN COMPOST PILE WITH THOSE LEAVES AND YARD DEBRIS.
