The body of a Leesburg man was found in DeKalb County, Tuesday night – and his son has been charged with murder in the case.
According to information contained in a news release from DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris – authorities received a call just after 7:00pm Tuesday (October 11th) – reporting what appeared to be a body off County Road 51 in the Shiloh community, south of Fort Payne.
Medical personnel from both the Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and DeKalb Ambulance Service arrived on the scene to find the body of a deceased white male.
Alabama State Troopers quickly secured the area and provided assistance with the investigation.
It appeared that the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest, and had been deceased for several hours.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators and Ft Payne Police Department Detectives, began developing leads, and after receiving positive verification from the FBI fingerprint lab, were able to identify the victim as Barry Turner Stone, age 48, of Leesburg.
Information continued to develop and a suspect was located in Ft Payne, and the Ft Payne Police Department and DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office continued to gather additional information from Ft Payne, DeKalb County, and Cherokee County officers and witnesses.
After reviewing case information, District Attorney Mike O’Dell authorized a murder warrant to be issued for the arrest of 27 year old Tony Ray Stone of Ft Payne – who is the son of the victim.
It appears at this time, that the father and son were in a heated verbal altercation and the younger Stone stabbed his father.
Barry Stone’s body has been transported by Coroner Tom Wilson, to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy.
Tony Stone was carried to the DeKalb County Detention Center where he remains without bond.
