Alabama law makers in Washington D.C. have voted for and against a bill to expand the federal government’s land holdings around Little River Canyon National Park on Lookout Mountain.  Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions sponsored a Senate bill that would allow the National Park Service to purchase land around Little River Canyon from willing sellers.  A similar bill in the House was defeated last week and Rep. Robert Aderholt of northeast Alabama voted against that bill.  Aderholt said that his vote was based on possible gun restrictions on federal lands that would have applied to the land acquired around Little River Canyon.  The House bill is expected to be revised and re-submitted within the coming days.
