A local teacher in the Chattooga County School system was arrested by Trion Police on Monday night on charges of criminal attempt of child molestation.  Trion Police Chief Chad Spraggins confirmed to AM1180 that David Daniel, age 48 of Lyerly was arrested at the Trion City Park around 10 PM on Monday night.

Daniel is a teacher at Leroy Massey Elementary School in Summerville.  According to the school’s website – Daniel is a science specialist teaching elementary school students and has been a teacher for 14 years.

Trion Police Chief Chad Spraggins told AM 1180 that his department had been investigating possible solicitations of minors.  Spraggins said that Daniel came to the Trion City Park believing that he would be meeting with an underage male for indecent purposes. 

The Trion Police Department released the following statement late on Tuesday evening:

On 1-15-2011 the Trion Police Department began a series of investigations of online sexual predators. Shortly after beginning the investigation, the investigator was contacted by a white male Identified as David Daniel. During the course of the investigation Daniel was made aware that he was speaking with a supposed 15 year old child. Despite knowledge of the subject’s age, Daniel went on to discuss topics of a sexual nature. Daniel discussed these acts in detail and attempted to entice the child for indecent and immoral acts by arranging a meeting. Daniel was arrested as he attempted to meet the child.
The investigation is ongoing and details will be made available at a later date.

Daniel was charged with Criminal Attempt to Committ Child Molestation, Computer Pornogrophy and Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes.
