Yesterday, December 7, 2011, marked the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese in 1941.  News came yesterday that One of Chattooga County’s World War II veterans had passed away.

Mr. Guy Toles was a World War II veteran having served with the First Marine Division in the South Pacific, being awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the Battle of Guadalcanal. He was the first from Chattooga County to be wounded during WWII.

Mr. Toles served as the postmaster in Menlo for 30 years.  He will be laid to rest at Alpine Cemetary in Menlo at noon today.
