The Lyerly Town Council met in their regular monthly work session on Tuesday and Personnel Policy changes were discussed, namely sick time for employees.

Lyerly Town Clerk Joy Hampton informed the council that employees currently receive 13 days sick time and 14 days vacation time yearly in addition to holiday pay. Given the size of the city and small number of employees, she felt this was a large number of days.

Hampton added that the days are hardly used, and most employees have the option of rearranging their schedules if a day off is needed. The decrease will save at least $400 yearly. Hampton said that with Harold Ragland looking at retirement, using so many sick days could lower efficiency in the department.
