Time is running short if you want to make payments on your property taxes.  Chattooga County residents should plan on having their property taxes paid by December 20 in order to avoid penalites.  Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Kathy V. Brown says that even if you have filed an appeal you still must pay at least 85% of your property taxes by the December 20 deadline.

Brown told AM 1180 that her office is accepting partial payments between now and December 20 in an effort to help residents get their taxes paid on time.  However, Commissioner Brown says don’t wait until the last minute and try to make partial payments.  If you divide your tax bill into 1/3 increments you can pay the 1/3 this month, 1/3 in November and 1/3 by the December 20 deadline.

Many Chattooga County residents have seen an increase in their property tax bills due to a millage rate increase by both County Commissioner Jason Winters and the Chattooga County Board of Education.
