A man was arrested Sunday for allegedly defrauding Newell Recycling in Floyd County to the tune of more than $26,000 during a time period covering April through December of last year. 

32 year old Joseph Thomas Melnyk of Alpharetta was arrested on a warrant for Theft by Deception.

That warrant alleges that he obtained tickets with false information, regarding the sale of scrap metal to the company, located on Highway 53 north of Rome – with Melnyk later splitting those proceeds with the individual who wrote out the tickets.

The warrant further claims that Melnyk never actually sold any metals to the company
