Rome Fire units along with Police and a Georgia DNR oficer headed a frantic search Saturday afternoon after a victim called 911 while pinned underneath a 4-wheeler.
The accident occurred shortly after 1:00 PM Saturday in the area of 1414 Big Texas Valley Rd. According to initial reports, the victim turned the 4-wheeler over, pinning himself about a quarter mile off the road up a hollow. Rome Fire Engine 7, Rescue 1,and Truck 29 along with Floyd EMS, Floyd Co. Police, and a Georgia DNR unit responded and began staging on the roadway.
DNR was first on the scene and began the search making their way up the hollow. Other units arrived promptly and aided in the seach, which was complicated by the fact the rider was alone. Residents also began helping by combing the area on their personal 4-wheelers.
The rider, who was still concious and pinned with a leg injury, was found by EMS and Rescue personnel around 1:45 PM, who freed him and loaded him into a Stokes Basket to be carried out. He was transported to Floyd Medical Center with minor injuries. From beginning to end, the search lasted around 30 minutes
