A man was airlifted from Riverside Campground in Cherokee County Alabama,  at approximately 4pm Saturday afternoon after suffering from what was described as an accidental self-inflicted gun shot wound to the chest. 

Reports indicate that the unidentified victim was cleaning his .22 Firearm when the gun discharged striking the man his chest. According to reports the man was unconscious for approximately an hour before waking up and calling 9-1-1.

The Cedar Bluff Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, Alabama Marine Police, Cherokee EMS, and the Cedar Bluff Fire Department responded to the scene.

The victim was airlifted by Life-Saver Helicopter to an area hospital where his condition remains unknown at this time.
