Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin alerts consumers to the recall of some Mayfield Dairy vanilla ice cream.
Mayfield Dairy Farms, Birmingham, Ala., is recalling its1.5-quart containers of Mayfield Homemade Vanilla Select Ice Cream with a code date of 03/17/10 and a Universal Product Code (UPC) number of 75243 20148. The product code can be found on the end of the package.
The recall was initiated because the affected product may have been contaminated with ammonia which may cause headache, nausea, vomiting and irritation of the throat.
No other code dates or Mayfield Dairy Farms products are involved in this recall.
This recall includes 14,084 units of the affected product distributed at retail outlets in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.
Consumers who have this product should not consume it. The ice cream should be discarded. The product package can be returned to place of purchase for full refund or exchange.
