Third Annual Northwest Georgia Balloon Festival

May 14th marks the opening of the third annual Northwest Georgia Balloon Festival.  Tillotson Field in Menlo once again will host the big hot air balloons.  The balloons will launch at 6 AM and 6 PM weather permitting.  Back this year is the Family Attractions Carnival along with our tethered balloon.  On Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM, country artists Buck and Duke will perform.  Craft and food vendors will be on the grounds offering great food and all types of crafts, including woodcarvings, jewelry , and quilted items.

For the wholesome family entertainment, it is hard to beat this festival.  For a parking fee of ten dollars, which is good for the entire weekend with your stub, you can enjoy all the flavor of a county fair with the extra addition of the balloons.  Plan to attend May 14th, 15th and 16th. The festival officially begins at 4 PM on Friday with one flight scheduled that afternoon at 6 PM. Two flights are scheduled on Saturday and Sunday at 6 Am and 6 PM weather permitting.

This year marks the fifteenth anniversary of John Cavin’s balloon, the Purple People Eater.  John, who had the idea to start the festival, said of his balloon, "It’s hard to believe I’ve been entertaining people all over the country with my big purple monster. The large eyes, dangling arms, and big teeth never frighten the children in attendance.  They love it. There is always a crowd reaction as we inflated.  I suppose that is why I keep flying my purple balloon."

Make your plans to be in Menlo, Georgia, at Tillotson Field on Highway 48 on May 14th, 15th and  16th so you do not miss any of the fun.
