Officials with Coosa Valley Technical College and Northwestern Tech are moving forward with plans to prepare for a merger, despite a recent decision by the state board of the Technical College System of Georgia to delay the mergers of several colleges, CVTC President Craig McDaniel said today.
“We’re proceeding with our plans to merge the two colleges,” he said. “We’re still on target.”
According to McDaniel, the board has sent the merger proposals to a committee to be re-examined after concerns were raised by representatives elsewhere in the state.
“In different pockets of the state, there’s resistance to the merger and it’s just a part of change,” McDaniel said. After they consider the issue, the state board will decide whether to continue with the mergers or put them on hold. McDaniel believes the mergers will still happen.
“I think they will go ahead with the mergers,” he said. “We’re moving forward as if the mergers are going to take place.”
