The United States Geological Survey has announced that there was a minor tremor last night around 7:30 PM centered about thirteen miles northeast of Dalton. Obviously, most Georgians never even noticed it, and there was no damage done. As of this afternoon, only two people had called the USGS to report feeling the mild quake. This was considered a noteworthy event, however, because it was just over five years ago – April 29, 2003 to be exact – when area residents were substantially shaken around 5 AM by a magnitude 4.9 quake centered near the Georgia – Alabama line just east of Fort Payne, Alabama.
