Mohawk Industries plans to close its Shannon distribution center over the next two months. 79 employees will be impacted by the shutdown and the company says it will be assisted by the state Dept. of Labor in attempting to help those employees find new jobs. Mohawk opened a massive 1.3 million square foot warehouse and distribution center along I-75 in Calhoun three years ago and the considerably smaller facility in Shannon is no longer financially viable. The company has made great strides in inventory control in recent years, reducing the need for excess warehousing space.
