Today is the last day to register for Disaster Unemployment Insurance. Residents who were adversely affected by the flood and became unemployed as a direct result of the flood that began on September 18th are eligible for these benefits. Some people who normally would not qualify for unemployment such as self-employed workers and farmers may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Insurance. Chattooga County became eligible for Disaster Unemployment Insurance when President Obama declared Chattooga County along with 16 other counties as disaster areas. The benefits are paid through the Georgia Department of Labor. If you have questions you should contact the Georgia Department of Labor today at 877-709-8185 or check out the Department of Labor’s Web site: www.dol.state.ga.us
